{Happy Father's Day} Papa!

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Dear Papa, remember our lunch at The Peanut three years ago? It changed everything. Thank you for teaching me how to use a drill press, mow the lawn, topwater bass fish, cook potatoes in a coffee can, give thoughtful gifts, spot a Wagner cast iron skillet at a yard sale, make Pumpkin Spice Bars, and for giving me an appreciation for Morrison, Taylor and Loggins.

Love you more than 2x4 go karts, Mrs. Blackwell's Thrift Store, homegrown veggies, Cedar Creek Beef Jerky, and chilled salad plates in the freezer.

Grateful to have you back in my life.
Happy Father's Day, Papa.

I'm nosy so now of course I want to hear the whole story. Plus, I've recently "lost" my relationship with my father - after 35 years. It's a difficult road. I'm glad that you two found restoration. (I'm making a lot of assumptions, I suppose... regardless - it was a sweet post.) :)

sara, i've learned that reconciliation and restoration are two very different things. thankfully, my relationship with my dad was one that experienced both. still committed to make amends with those on my list ... one day at a time :)

so did you reconcile or restore? Or am I asking too many questions? I honestly mean that... you can tell me to shut up. I'm clueless about asking too much. I figure I can ask - people can always decline answering, but I also recognize that may put them in an awkward place. I don't want that.

I'm going to have to think on this reconciliation vs. restoration thing for awhile now. I am not sure that what I had with my dad was ever even genuine, so not sure that there is anything LEFT to restore. Part of me hangs on to that hope, though. And reading things like this always pricks at that hope.

Again, I am sorry if I am being overbearing.
