{A Word on Friendship}

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

My friend Mel {who I often refer to as Mrs. McGeeHee on the blog} called at the crack yesterday to see if I wanted to eat free Fruit Pancrepes at Cafe Brazil. Thankfully, I've learned to never let anything come between a pregnant lady and her food so of course I said YES. Plus, who can turn down a doughy volcano of awesomeness exploding with raspberry fruit lava?

{Mrs. McGeeHee & Sohee}

Our dear friend Sophie {aka Sohee} was also able to join us. I wish I could tell you how wonderful it was to start my day with these two chickies. Even though they couldn't be more different {one likes to wear bangles and belts everything while the other rocks her grandpa's denim pearl snaps and mismatched socks}, they somehow manage to fit together like Tonto and The Lone Ranger.

Mel is t-minus 2 weeks away from having her first bambino and Soph has a little 1 yr old daughter named Sloany Balogna who makes the best Zoolander faces I've ever seen. While these girls encourage me in their marriages, parenting, and pursuit of deep and authentic friendships, they mostly remind me to be myself and to love who that person is becoming - a rare gift when we live in a society that is marked by unrealistic expectations of others and instant gratification.

If you don't have a Mrs. McGeeHee or a Sohee in your life I sure hope that one day you will. They're both pretty awesome and will literally make you laugh until your sides hurt.

Hope your Wednesday is off to a good start, Littles. No letters today as yesterday was a bit rough and this is what was on my heart to write about at 11pm before I crawled in the biscuit last night. Fist pumps and leg kicks for officially being halfway done with your work week!

Much love,
Em

Love it. I am lucky enough to have a friend like that, although she lives on the other side of the country.

Boo to rotten days. I will pack up some California sun and send it your way, with a mountain of happy thoughts.

Also, your choice of breakfast-y raspberry lava-y goodness merits approximately one billion gold stars. That looks delicious, and time with friends like that is magical. Glad you scored some.

I grew up always downplaying my interests and latching on to those of the people around me to fit in. It wasn't until my mid-to-late-20s that I started to realize how to be true to myself, stop worrying so much about pleasing others, and take pride in what I love. I have a lot of friends, but only a very small handful that are close, and still none as close as my husband. Moving a lot will do that, and unfortunately, being guarded with opening up and letting new friends in, will too, but in the end, I think it's most important to be your own BFF. Love who you are, learn to embrace change, and the external relationships will follow.

I wanna hork the crap out of those pancrepes, by the way.

Hope today is better. <3

I love that you give yourself the freedom to not write letters every day (as much as we love them)- and that you simply share your heart. May the Lord make your rough place smooth in his perfect timing. (Isaiah 42:16) Sending you fist pumps and hugs from SC!

Thank you for this lovely post. Good girlfriends who know us and encourage us to be our real and best selves, just can't be replaced by any other relationship. Thank you for sharing this. I agree with Mary Beth. It's refreshing that you write from your heart and with such honesty.
Hope tomorrow is a better day!
