Today's Letters: Dear Mr. Loerke PA-S III, yesterday you texted me this picture with a message that read, "Just checking in on you." Look out Patch Adams, there's a new joker in town. Dear Lost Maples State Park, because you were listed as one of the the Top 10 Fall Foliage Destinations in the US, you left us no choice but to plan a backpacking trip for October. CAN'T WAIT. Dear Outdoor Movie, already looking forward to hanging out with Doc and Marty McFly on Friday night. Will be sure and bring our lawn chairs, blankets, and radiation suits. Dear Husband, love you more than homemade banana pudding and watching you work out. Both are d-to-the-licious.

Much continued thanks to those who follow the blog. I love knowing who you are!
Ps, what are your "must haves" for camping?

you need a bag and a tarp. That should do it! always the minimalist camper.
Pops would take an air mattress, two burner stove, cast iron dutch oven and several nifty outfits...

and I must comment on the photo...
My, my Tim, what BIG EYES YOU HAVE!

Dear Mrs. Loerke, just started reading your blog. I. Cannot. Stop. Literally, I keep pushing the older posts link and reading and reading. Thanks for making me laugh hysterically in my office and look foolish. Oh well. Thanks for making me want to be a better person, unexplainable from the letters, but totally true. ps keep up the letters always and forever. pss pretty sure we would be besties if given the opportunity. Late.

ahhh, lost maples! we honeymooned there almost 10 years ago in the fall (TG week, to be exact). but alas, the seasons were wonky that year, and no foliage for us. boo! just our luck. but the hiking was legit! :0)

camping essentials? for me, a campfire percolator. and bacon. there's just something about bacon cooked outside...

Ornery (the backpacker at Miller Manor) suggests:
1. Backpack :)
2. light clothing and light jacket (polar fleece)
3. Sleeping bag and pad
4. Tent
5. light food (not calorie wise, just weight wise) he suggests lipton noodles and granola bars)
6. headlamp
7. shovel and tp :P
8. Small first aid kit
9. Water bottle and filter or purification tabs
We have now loaded you down so the hike will burn extra calories. Ornery was a scouter, so he believes in being prepared!!
Have a fun trek!

my mister majored in backpacking in college. 4 reals... how did the rest of us miss getting a degree in all things fun? I actually got a rain jacket as part of my wedding gift from him... mainly because he thinks i'm cute in it. some of our must haves: north face sleeping bags {because 2 biscuits can zip up as one} and dr. brommers. have fun!

hot tea and a means to boiling some h2o. oh! and i second the 'handy husband'- he's absolutely necessary!
