Today's Letters: Dear Mr. Loerke, Saturday night when I was climbing into the biscuit you yelled, "Merry Christmas!" I knew you were talking in your sleep but it was still a great way to be welcomed to bed. Dear Homemade Potato Leek Soup, I haven't tasted anything this good since we made cream cheese stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon Woobies. Thanks for inspiring me to eat turnips, rutabagas, and celery root. Dear Top Blog 2010 Competition, in the words of Martin Luther King, "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last." Dear Husband, snow in Texas has always been rare and wondrous. Yesterday you reminded me to enjoy it, even if it meant getting hit in the head with a snowball.
HAPPY FREAKIN MONDAY!

What's your favorite snow memory? We used to go sledding down Suicide Hill as a family. If you made it as far as the train tracks you gained instant street cred.

Congrats! A well deserved win. I really don't have many childhood snow memories...I grew up in Arizona. But, it snows a little where I live now and I love watching my kids squeal with delight as the go down the hill on their inner tubes.

Congrats!

My little sister and I used to build snow forts out of the giant snow drifts in our front yard. We could stand inside them and play all day long.

MY favorite snow memory is when I woke up this A.M. and my boss called to say "STAY HOME!"

Woo-hoo! Congrats Em & Tim on the big win! I knew you could do it! So proud of you and your excellent blog! My favorite snow memory is last year, the "big snow" in Dallas when Todd and I drove around WR Lake, watching the gently falling flakes and then going up to Flag Pole Hill where half of Dallas was sledding on anything they could find that would slide (a canoe, skis, cardboard, etc.)

congrats!!!! How exciting!! oooooh how i miss snow!

Congratulations!!! You guys really do have a fantastic blog.

Growing up, my elementary school was this huge hill. Sadly for the people who lived at the bottom of the hill, their chain link fence took a beating each year as kids slammed into it over and over with their sleds and flying saucers! So much fun!!!

favorite snow memory: growing up in Nashville, TN we were pretty poor so instead of sleds, our parents took the lids of the trash cans for us to use to slide down the ice covered roads.

One day it was extremely icy and I slid all the way down the subdivision road onto the main highway and my mom threw my little brother off his trash can lid and slid down to save me.

Ahhh, memories.

Congrats to the both of you for your win and continued inspiration to those that have computers. Snow here today in KC, thus we will venture out tonight to Suicide Hill to take a run to the tracks for old time sake. Will miss you on that run and will do fist pumps before taking off down the hill, and leg kicks at the tracks for you. Might just be good enough for Friday's pics! xoxox Papa

yay! so happy for you on the big win! (this even beats the amazing win that seattle had over the saints this weekend- and i was jumping, clapping, hootin' and hollerin' during that 67 yard touchdown!)

it's snowing here today in seattle... love it!

I made snow cream for the first time last night...SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! But my favorite snow memory has to be the '93 blizzard...we were out of school for days!

Ashley said...

Congrats on the well-deserved win, you two!

Growing up in Michigan, I must have spent thousands of hours playing in the snow. Favorite memory though? We grew up next to my school, so we'd always play on the giant piles of snow made by the plows in the school parking lot. Once, we made this GIANT (to us) slide down the side of a pile, and on its inaugural run my sister WET HER PANTS and left a yellow streak down the whole thing. I don't think I've laughed that hard or that long since. We still laugh about it every winter.

Congrats, Y'all!!! I really love your blog even tho I'm just a housewife and a 50 year old mom trying to raise two teenagers in OKC and y'all are two young marrieds just starting out (seemingly the RIGHT way). And you have interesting and diverse tastes in life and music but ...you inspire me!!! I can't help it...I like you!

Hooray! Congratulations! You guys totally deserve it!

My favorite snow memory would have to be the 9+ inches we got in north Texas last....march was it? I loved it!! Even though I've been places with foot upon foot of snow, it was nice to have so much to enjoy at home. It was also extra special for me because my husband had just come home on temporary leave to meet our second child (who was born in January) for the first time. We all got to experience the snow together and were able to take our two year old to the golf course for some sledding! It was wonderful!

My favorite snow memory has to be making some killer snow forts, fully equipped with a bamboo infrastructure, multiple exits, and a full snow ball artillery. All this just in case we were attacked by ninjas.

Congrats on WINNING! I love introducing my international friends to your blog. I'm so happy for you guys!

Favorite snow memories always include planning sleepovers in junior high at a girlfriend's house--jamming to NKOTB, eating lots of junk and talking about boys as we monitored the snowfall and chances of school being canceled with every 15 minutes. I miss snow days!

Vic said...

congrats on the win!
and just to let you know that things are right with the world, Campbell and his tribe just headed over to Suicide. There is a bath mat by the door and campers hot chocolate mix ready for the return!

Congratulations Loerkes! Hopefully this brings many new followers to your ministry of a blog!

My favorite snow memories are of my brother and I sledding down the hill in our backyard on trash can lids with pup in tow...then coming inside to peppermint hot chocolate with bobbing oversized marshmallows. YUMMM!

Happy snow day! :)

Favorite: Sled riding. O, how I miss sled riding. One of the best parts, though, is slipping into dry, warm, jammies with a hot cup o' cocoa afterwards.

Favorite: Watching huge, chunky flakes fall at night, while the air outside is completely still, with hardly a sound, tree branches piled with snow, and a light glow in the sky. Side note: The last scene in Christmas Story, with the mom & dad in the window, makes me homesick every time.

Least favorite: Someone up there mentioned the blizzard of '93... NO thank you. That would be the one that my university decided not to cancel classes for until 7pm, despite a -65F windchill.

Rebecca said...

congrats! I voted all the way and had no doubt you'd win!

My favorite snow memory is when my MOM sledded down this huge ravine next to our high school and showed the other kids up! She still goes out to sled every time it snows!

Ashley's story above about her sis's yellow streak made me spit sandwich crumbs I was laughing so hard!

Congrats on making top blog! You two deserve this honor. Keep it real, homies. :)

I never liked to ski (tried it once at the age of ten or eleven and the ski instructor swore and laughed at me...I never wanted to do it again) but I sure loved to go up "to the snow" in the Cascades in Washington state and play. My dad would take us up, find a relatively empty parking lot and let us play in the snow. Sometimes we went with friends and took tubes along to go flying down the hill, but lots of times, we just sculpted the snow. My single favourite memory is making a bathroom out of snow with my dad. Ever since, I've been determined to recreate the experience. And no, we didn't use the snow bathroom..

Congrats! I'm so happy for you guys. Today's Letters totally deserves this!

Favorite snow moment is waking up last Saturday morning having no clue we were expecting snow, looked outside, saw all the white and immediately dialed the twin and yelled "snow day!". I probably should have waited a little later in the day - it was only 7:45 am on her only day off. Oopsie! :-)

1. Congratulations!! So proud and excited for you!

2. Favorite snow memory: I am from AZ, so snow was a novelty when I came to Tulsa. Ornery and I were students at ORU, and my dorm was across a parking lot from the dining hall. The snow was incredible--stacked about 5 inches on the hoods and tops of the cars. He was feeling, well ORNERY, and tossed a snowball at me. I am NOT coordinated with my hands, and had I thrown a ball, I would have missed by a mile, but it is hard to miss when you use your entire arm to gather and fling snow at the guy next to you. He was white from head to toe. :)

Then I ran. :)
