{Tools to Create}

It's people like Blair Sligar, The Mast Brothers, Graham Bignell & Richard Ardagh who are reinstilling the wonder and magnificence of design by staying committed to the craft movement.

It's a gift when these woodworkers, chocolatiers, and typographers revive long forgotten techniques and tools of the trade. You can't help but want to simplify.

What are some skills or crafts that you admire?

I admire art in general. People who can draw and paint, it's incredible.

*sigh* sewing.

finding little girls' clothing that is appropriate (or even flat-out DECENT) is SO HARD in this day and time, and God had enough humor to give us TWO of them. i had planned to learn how to sew so i could make my own appropriate dresses for my daughters. finding good little girls' clothing means going to expensive boutiques a lot of times, and i figured sewing could give me an advantage.

my mother--who's been sewing since she was a little girl and made a lot of my own clothes--was going to teach me, but she died unexpectedly in august.

my lesson learned: seize every opportunity! life is so fleeting. :0)

My Grandad was an upholster and my other Grandad was a carpenter - so I must have got creative genes from somewhere lol. The Grandad who is a carpenter is a bit of a jack of all trades so he can do all sorts of other things as well.

I enjoy cobblers and watch repair people (I believe there is a term for this trade). Oh, and people that make musical instruments by hand. All trades that are "dying out" but totally amaze me.

I took a stained glass class back in November, and it was amazing how much time and effort goes into the simplest of designs - and how it can't really be machine created! Really beautiful art. I'd love to make more!

Letterpress! There is something about the embossed paper and the process that is required for each piece to be created that makes my heart swell. Letterpress. That's my favorite.
