{MR340 Race Update!}

Monday, April 04, 2011

For those of you who are new to the blog I thought I'd do a recap about a race that my dear friend Em and I are currently training for this summer. In July we'll be participating in the MR340, a 4 day kayak race across the state of Missouri. We'll start in Kansas City and end in St. Charles (20 miles west of St. Louis). We originally signed up because A) we thought it would be a memorable adventure and B) Tim and I wanted to help raise $5,000 to cover the last of Em & Kent's adoption fees.

{New Hobbit Feet Purchased at REI for $17.51 with coupon and dividend check. BAM!}

After asking friends, family, and faithful readers like yourself to sponsor each mile of our race for $15.00 (340 mi x $15.00 = $5,100), we were able to raise $5,160 in less than 4 weeks. This made us cry lots and even throw a few fist pumps and leg shimmies.

{New bow & stern lights purchased from West Marine}

In addition to the money we raised for our sweet friends, we're also on mission to try and fundraise some of our travel expenses and gear. So far, $675.00 has been donated towards this part of our adventure leaving us with $4,325.00 left to go.

This week's NEW Race Sponsor:
Amber Miller

Should you choose to make a donation we'll gladly put your name on our River Rocket for all to see as we float down the Mighty Missouri. (I promise your name will give us more mojo than flames).

If you'd like to donate $100.00 or more we'll also add your company logo to our River Rocket and blog sidebar through the end of July.

{Em connecting our bilge pump with one paw. She's the shiz}

And should you choose not to donate, rest assured we will still be friends. Promise.

This weekend Em and I spent another few hours paddling out at White Rock Lake. This time I came home with 3 blisters (which my buddy West assures me is only "weakness leaving my body"), and Em endured a sore right trap and a rockin spandex tan. SEXY.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions regarding our race or if you just wanna know more about the dead fish we see floating in the lake every Saturday.

Xoxo,
Em & Em

Great lights. Make sure to tie them on to your deck lines because the suction cups don't hold for very long! And, don't screw the suction cups into the bottom - screw them into the sides. That way the white light won't be shining on you at night, and the red/green light won't be in your line of vision so much. I ran mine for all three nights without replacing the batteries.

See you Sunday!

ned, see you sunday! we'll be the yellow rocket running into trees.

felicity, i've been compiling a list of moon songs since we'll be paddling at night. so far i have 16 ... i'm convinced good music will get us through several sections of this race!

beth joy, BAM is right! way to go, little.

nicole, i'm a chaco girl so i'm not sure if i would have purchased my hobbit feet if it weren't for the race. but they are pretty comfortable. not. gonna. lie.

YOU GOT MONKEY TOES!!!!!!! They are only my most favorite of favorite things to put on my feet before a run. (I firmly believe in naked feet, or flip flops, but not for runnning) They are so fiercely amazing for your body and people can see when you are so happy you just have to wiggle your toes. I do this a lot. Are you running in them, or are they for water feetsie protection on the mighty Mississippi? What kind did you get? AHH! I'm very excited for you. I'm doing the Gladiator Rock N'Run in mine (It's like Warrior Dash. :D )

cagridlock, they are the KSO's so mostly for kayaking and water sports. the running ones have a thicker sole. i might wear them in the warrior dash in a couple of weeks but typically i just run in my amphibians which seem to hose off really well. so fun that you're doing the rock n run!!!
