{Secret Mission: Date Day}

Tuesday, July 05, 2011

Last weekend I planned a surprise date day for Tim Tam because I'm convinced surprises are his love language. His first clue was this secret message I left for him underneath our giving tree.

(Thankfully, he circled Yes).

Then on Saturday morning I gave him his second clue: In-N-Out Burger's secret menu.

By 10:30am we were ready to eat our double-double, (animal style) cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shakes.

Pretty sure I could bathe in their secret sauce. Anyone else agree?

Later in the day Tim Tam received his third clue.

It wasn't long before he figured out where we were headed. A place marked by 3D glasses ...

Car speakers ...

Lights ...

And big screens.

The Ennis drive-in! Tim Tam wasn't at all excited. Not one bit.

This maybe might have given him a superhero complex. (Insert Buzz Lightyear fan here).

Spending the evening with these two jokers made our date night that much sweeter.

We ended up seeing the new Pirates movie (Siskel and Loerke gave it 3 out of 5 stars). If you've never been to the Galaxy Drive-In Theater in Ennis we highly recommend it. This little piece of small town America is just 45 min away from Dallas and will make you feel right at home with their southern hospitality, cheap hot dogs, snow cones, and all the Dippin' Dots you can cram into your belly. Make sure you bring cash ($6 tickets) and get ready to spend an evening away from the city where you can actually see the stars!

Have you ever been to a drive-in before? What did you think? Team Loerke thinks they should be on everyone's bucket list.

Happy Freakin Tuesday, Homies!

I would love to go to a drive in movie - then again I would actually be singing Stranded at the Drive In from Grease all the way there and back (then again my OH might leave me there hehe)

I'm going to see Larry Crowne tonight and I saw Pirates not last week but the week before :)

Yay for pop up comments!!! I am from a small town close to Ennis so that drive in was our best friend in high school. Sounds like an amazing little surprise date! Good job.

I LOVE your secret dates! We have a drive in in Atlanta and it was one of the Mister and I's "dates" before we were "official"...we should go back now so we can make out!

I've only been to a drive in once. Wasn't that great but of course I wasn't with the right person! Love In-N-Out! We have them everywhere in Cali (obviously) but my friend who lives outside of Dallas, sent me a text recently and all it said was In-N-Out.... Texas has been blessed as well!

I love drive-ins! I went in college. I saw Toy Story 3 last summer and we stuffed the bed of a truck with pillows and blankets. We had popcorn and hot cocoa. It's amazing what a deal a drive-in is: 2 movies for $6!!

There is a drive-in in Blue Ridge, GA. We go up occassionally for white water rafting, camping, killer BBQ at The Pink Pig, and to catch a flick at the drive-in. That is a perfect weekend right there!

What an awesome date!

I'm fortunate enough to have one of the few drive-ins left in the state a few minutes away. I haven't been in a while though. Methinks I know what I'm going to do tonight...

We have a drive in about 20 minutes outside of our city. Its tradition to go there multiple times a summer in our group. Sadly, our drive-in doesn't have the cool vintage feel, complete with car speakers. We use new fangled radio stations.

In college, my bible study co-leader and I took our freshmen to the drive in about 2 hours from College Station. We borrowed his roommate's 'burban and he informed us that there was no spare so we should avoid getting a flat. We got to the movie: a double feature of Secondhand Lions and The Duplex (a fabulous movie followed by a waste of a movie). When we were leaving, we realized we had a flat. Agh! So Lee, my co-leader went into town with some people he happened to know that we ran into at the drive-in. And I was left with 4 girls at an shut-down drive in in the middle of nowhere. My mom genes kicked in. There was seriously no one, no lights left on, nothing. We made friends with a stray dog. And at one point an unmarked car pulled up and there was an officer uniform hanging in the back window. We all no the stories of people pretending to be officers. But this one really was. Eventually Lee came back and patched the tire. It was a crazy night. And even after the patch, our 2 hours drive home became a 5 hour drive because we had to find someplace to get a new tire to make it home. Ah, memories. :)

this is awesome! i love the effort you put into it :)
i've been to a couple of drive-ins in my lifetime, including one where i got asked if i wouldn't rather run around and play catch with a little, rambunctious 5 year old.
no, i think i'd rather watch Toy Story 3...

We used to go to the drive-in as a family back in the 70's. My mom would bring bologna and bread, chips and pop. She'd make sandwiches and us kids would lay on our bellies on the roof of our car and eat while we listened to the music play before the movies started. Doris Day's Que Serah,Serah (sic?) is one I remember.

Hey, is that a Jersey Mike's cup Tim is holding in the pic...I LOVE their subs!!!! #13 Mike's Way with the Jersey Dab!!!

My hubs and I have been to a few drive-in movies, my favorite being Ratatouille. I LOVE the drive in, but I must say I didn't like it so much as a kid when I was in the backseat of the van and could barely see over my sleeping sister in the front seat.

This post inspired me in planning a date day with my fiance. It will be our first day together in two months after I get back from a 2 month missions trip in Greece. We're going to a drive-in :)

Ahhhh, sweet drive-ins... one by one they're torn down, or used only to serve as flea markets on the weekends. My old high-school drive-in was replaced by a Walmart. Now I have to drive all the way to Barstow (Route 66). I'm glad that one is alive and well. Thank you, Barstow!!!
