Today's Letters: Dear Mr. Loerke, last night you asked me if I'd fry an egg on a manhole with you. So we did. Reason #264 why boy roommates are AWESOME. Dear Twinner, only 29 more days until we stuff our bocas with curry tofu sammy's from The Mixing Bowl, eat lemon lavender sorbet from Scream, drink Ritual coffee at Remedy, and devour vegan cinnamon rolls from Cinnaholic while watching Modern Family in the biscuit. Vacations with you are my fave. Dear Homemade Pickles, you remind me of all things summer. Thanks for being the perfect wingman to my BLT. Dear Husband, yesterday you asked me to be your date to the State Fair (in October). I accept. Over and out.

What's your favorite thing to do at the fair?

The Iowa State Fair is epic...our favorite thing to do is EAT. Corn dogs, turkey legs, smoothies, lemonade, nachos...yum!

Also, free concerts! This year we're seeing Tenth Avenue North, which is one of our favorites!

My favorite thing about our county fair is the kids' pedal tractor pull. So funny to watch! I'm a former pedal pulling champ...have the trophy to prove it!

sadly, the egg did not fry. maybe because we tried it too late in the day (6pm) because it was definitley 110 yesterday in dallas!

tractor pull? i love it! we have pig races but no tractor pull that i know of. way to go on being a champ!

You two make my heart melt (similar to that egg). Is it not the coolest thing to be able to love each other in the small ways? Go marriage! woohoo!

last year we got to see the Avett Bros at our state fair (in S.C.)... this year it'll be G Love and Special Sauce or Roots (or both)

we also have to leave with a bag of mini donuts to eat on the car ride home.

our kids love the pig races!

It used to be riding rides, but post-teen years, defying gravity has gotten more difficult to handle. Now... the FOOD. Chicken on a stick, elephant ears, TAFFY!

Eating! For sure... mmm...elephant ears...

So I went home last night, picked a cuke and made pickles. They are fantastic! Thank you for sharing your recipe.

My favorite part of the fairs here in New England is searching for the new fried food - fried oreos, fried pickles, fried thanksgiving sandwiches. It's like a treasure hunt every year.

Funnel cakes and elephant ears - oh sugary, cinnamony goodness. Watching tiny kids laugh their heads off and hold on for their lives on the rides is wonderful. Last time I rode fair rides (last week!) a tiny 6 year old boy next to shouted: You should see your face right now! Oh my. Bliss to the what.

I love the model train building at the NM State Fair. My dad used to make us spend hours in there when we were kids, but now I do it willingly!

Besides eating a ridiculous amount of food, I love free outdoor concerts...I've gotten to see Hanson and Boys II Men the last few times I went to the fair.
