Husband's Letters: Dear Mrs. Loerke, this weekend we drove around Dallas looking at houses. Your ability to see the potential in things energizes this dreamer! Dear Africa Reading List, Em and I have been so blessed by the vast depths of knowledge poured over us in preparation for Uganda. We are continually challenged by the charge to care for the poor, orphan, and the widow. Dear Super Bowl, thanks for giving us a reason to make homemade hot wings. Looking forward to burning off our lips while using Ranch as ChapStick as we cheer on the Giants!  Dear Emma, sometimes you like to crawl up into my lap while we watch TV. There is nothing more enjoyable than having you near.

Over and out,
Tim

What good books have you read lately? And Giants or Patriots?

"The Cause Within" or something like that by Matthew Barnett who set up The Dream Center in LA.

Now I'm reading Pride and Prejudice.

I'm not enough of a fan to know the difference but I'm recording it to watch it the following day with Our Sidekick

Good morning Loerkes! God Bless You both and what you are doing here and for Him!

I am currently very excited to be reading The Story. I can't put it down and our church is doing one big Bible study on it each week this year!

We are Seahawks fans but GO GIANTS!

Now reading Zanzibar Chest-another Africa essential-although may not be as educational as some of your other choices.

I am also going to Uganda to help an orphanage in May and I am reading When Helping Hurts to prepare! I know you two are so excited for your trip as am I. Blessings before your fun adventure.

I think an absolute must read would be The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. It is such an inspiring book and you might want to have a box of tissues nearby. I just finished reading it for the second time. It is an excellent read for anyone who has a family member or a friend fighting Cancer.

Extra fist pumps for "When Helping Hurts" from this Community Development major studying under the authors of this book at Covenant College. I love that you guys get it and are helping get the word out about the importance of development vs. relief work. Praying for your trip to Uganda as I get ready for my Community Development internship in Togo this summer.

Woohoooo for When Helping Hurts!!!
I read my way across Africa one year and my most recent favorite from the Continent is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind! Amazing read!

The Poor Will Be Glad by Peter Greer. It touches on some of the things mentioned in When Helping Hurts and offers some really practical ways to aid in development.

Also, extra fist pumps for Kisses With Katie! Reading my way through it right now and its shaking me up. I can't be indifferent or satisfied with comfortable after reading what a girl my age is doing on the other side of the world for His glory!

I found your blog through Ashley over at Adventures of Newlyweds. I saw you were also from Texas and have an amazing blog, so I just had to follow :]

The Robe. I STRONGLY recommend it! For serious.

And I am quite indifferent towards the two teams but since I am a California girl I'll be going with the Giants!

p.s. something tells me you Loerkes would love this Ranch barbeque chicken dip my roommates make. It has as much deliciousness as it does calories ;)

The Hole is our Gospel is an amazing book. If you want other Africa reading, I recommend Little Bee and A Long Way Gone. They are both gripping.

My hot-wing-chapstick of choice is generally blue cheese. And I'm such a huge fan of how you worded that :)

Heather, I've read A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier...is that the one you're referring to? That book was gripping. This was my first exposure to the child soldiers and the trauma they are exposed to.

Tim,

Yes, that is the book to which I am referring...by the way, I'm a PA at MD Anderson. If you ever want to venture into the gratifying world of oncology, let me know!
