{Guest Letters from Emily McKeaigg}

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Happy Tuesday, Homies! I'm excited to have my sweet friend Em McKeaigg featured as today's guest letter writer. If you've been reading our blog for awhile you'll member our crazy Kayaking Adventure together last summer. In fact, many of you donated money towards our race and towards Kent & Em's adoption. It truly was an incredible experience. So without further adieu, here's an update from our sweet friends and their little guy, Branch Burress McKeaigg!

Dear TL Readers, remember this time last year? Em & I were busy training for the MR340. Little did we know what all would change in a couple months. Each time I am by the lake, I think of y'all and feel grateful for how you supported us through our last bit of adoption fees and preparing for the race. It was an overwhelming experience. Kent and I were challenged by your giving and excitement about our baby without really knowing us. All the dead fish, lost tennis balls, our windy near death experience (kind of a joke), and learning how to read the water were that much more fun knowing we had people cheering us on. It was a short season but deeply impacted our family. Thank you!

Dear Branch, NINE months. How are you only 3 months away from being 1 YEAR old? It's troubling how fast it has gone, and your dad and I have truly LOVED it.  My, how you've flipped our lives upside down with a 24 hours notice, literally. We wanted that flip for so long, flipping is good. I can't get enough of your belly laugh, the pose, your crazy 4 tooth grin, or your sweet, content smile. I'd heard about how much I'd love you, but I wasn't sure what that would feel like. Now I know, and it's fabulously frightening. It's been funny but sad to see you get stuck standing in your crib and as soon as I help you lie down, you pass out. You're funny. We love you, Branchypants.

Dear Brain, why you so crazy? You wake me early for a phantom baby babbling and crying but it's not in my house nor in existence, for that matter. You help me remember and accomplish so much, but sometimes I find the fresh pot of coffee in the refrigerator and my phone in the dog food bin ... sum ting wong. I suppose waking up with Tainted Love in my head is better than my old looping song, Baby, Baby. But who doesn't love some Amy Grant first thing in the morning, here, here?

Dear Baylor, I kinda wondered if it was too good to be true. Why you gotta be breakin the rules? I forgive you, hopefully the NCAA will too. You've given me the best year of cheering for the Bears yet! For a while, I wasn't sure how to live in a world in which Baylor sports were good other than the occasional tennis, track, baseball, or women's basketball team. I've adjusted, and I like it. Can't wait to sail-gate on the Brazos and cheer the RG3less team on to a victory over TCU and Iowa State. Currently I'm not sure what to say about basketball, but I am still proud of those Lady Bears this year! Sic em.

Dear Kent, like I've said before, I can't imagine walking through life with anyone else. You are endlessly patient, kind, and forgiving (Lord knows I've needed the forgiveness ... whew). These 9 months have been crazier than our 9 years together. Thanks for always putting the key in the door when you go to the car before me, tip toe'ing when you get up at the hiney-crack for Crossfit, and having such a grateful spirit about the stuff I do or don't get done in a day. Despite my lack of obvious laughter, you are still pretty funny, I'm just trying to keep your humor in shape, and I do believe you are the cutest dad I ever did see. Thanks for loving me.

Love,
Em

Love the letter, Em! Great pics of Kent, Branch, and you. Amy Grant would be proud.

Sic 'em! I have the same t-shirt as your husband--which I think means I should probably branch out and start wearing clothes made for women.

Happy Tuesday (to both Ems)! <3

I loved reading these letters... Emily and Kent, congrats on being Branch's parents! He is adorable. Not sure if Kent remembers me, but I was a kamper and on staff at K-Klassic, so it's great to hear an update from you guys. Loved following the journey of Branch. :)

I will never forget the first time that Branch magically appeared on the boat ramp in Manhattan, KS at the start of the race. I suspect he will someday paddle with his mom in the MR340! Thank you for sharing updated pics.

Great letter! Also, I woke up with that Amy Grant song stuck in my head this morning, and I haven't heard that song in FOREVER. So weird that you mentioned it!

woop-woop for the return of guest letters.

I was thinking about that branch baby the other day. Nice to know there are still crazy baby-naming parents out there, said Meg, mother of a girl named Fern and a boy named Burl.

Isn't motherhood wonderful, and crazy, and awesome, and frightening all at the same time? My little guy is 11 months (and is currently climbing over me to type something to you as well.) My husband and I are also Baylor alums and were blown away by this season!!!!! WHERE did you get that shirt?!?! I need it. Maybe like three of them! Also, have you seen the "Mama Bear," "Papa Bear," and "Baby Bear" shirts? They are awesome. You need to get them!

Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
