{Husband's Letters}

Tuesday, June 05, 2012

Dear Mrs. Loerke, recently I asked you what you wanted for your birthday and you said, "Good BBQ, a fly rod, a road trip to Arkansas." You are every man's dream. Dear Prank Gone Wrong, you reminded me that a group of grown and highly educated men can still act like idiots. Thankful for my wife's grace. Dear Dude Trips, you have revolutionized my marriage. Sometimes the best thing Em and I can do for our relationship is to spend time apart. Dear Emma, your love for old things is amazing. How about we turn your new type cabinet into a mega fly box? You in?

Over and out,
Tim

What's been your favorite birthday? Favorite birthday gift?

a couple of years ago Ben built me two raised garden beds with dovetail corners. i had no idea he was making them but he knew it's all i really wanted. since then I've grown evereything from basil, sweet pots, to tomatoes, and kale in those sweet beds. I. Am. Thankful.

17....I was surprised with DMB tickets and my best friend somehow tricked me into heading to Shawnee Mission Park where about 20 friends where hiding down the hill at one of the fire pits. We sang songs all night long, cooked hot dogs and talked around the fire for hours. Still a classic in my book. Simple, yet extremely thoughtful.

mmr, your dude. so much goodness in that bearded woodworker!

mel, you're from kc?? dmb, sm park, campfires, dear friends. such a great birthday!

meg, perfect gifts in my opinion. it's why i have people like steph in my life to buy me bobbi brown make up and a husband who takes me to orvis. re: the prank, one of tim's friends left me a message saying tim had had cut off his finger with a circular saw. i was on my way to the ER when I finally realized it was a joke. so not funny then, but can laugh about it now ;)

aww those sound like the perfect birthday gifts. my fave was a few years ago my loverboy got me a Nook for reading. i didn't even ask for it, but he came up with this marvelous idea all by his lonesome. i think that's what made it so great: he knew me well enough to know what i'd love to be spoiled with. it was perfect.

For my 16th birthday I asked 6 months in advance for a trip to NYC. I didn't care how long, I would have been happy with one day or even one hour. My parents said, no, we couldn't afford it. What did I get for my birthday? A 3 day trip to NYC with my parents and my best friend. Turns out they had been planning it months before I even asked! I'm blessed to have parents who knew/know me so well!

For my 40th birthday (yes i'm old) one of best friends got me a 12 pack of custom Jones root beer. I think everyone needs a picture of themselves on a root beer bottle along with a lovely paragraph she wrote in honor of me! Coolest gift ever!
