{Today's Letters}

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Dear Mr. Loerke, currently experiencing your fifth night shift in the ER. I crawl in bed at 2am. You're up at 5am for a run. Sometimes we're like two ships passing in the night but always Morse code to keep us centered. Dear Moti, still can't believe I get to meet you in two weeks. I wonder about you all the time; how big your muscles are getting and if someone has told you today how brave you are. Dear WB, congrats on writing me a letter that made it into my top 5 favorites of all time. The end. Dear Timothy James, speaking with you about marriage and intentionality does all sorts of crazy thing to my heartbox. So blessed to call you Beloved.

When was the last time you wrote someone a hand written or typed letter? This weekend I spent time tapping away on my 1941 Royal Deluxe (a gift from these friends). It was gooooood.

Erm I posted some letters two weekends ago but they were typed rather than hand written :(

We visited a church here in Bedford called The King's Arms. In their foyer/welcome hall there is a coffee shop - you walk through the door and there on the first table as decoration is a type writer - exactly the same as one I had growing up. I got so excited about it I think Chris thought I might explode! I was that excited.

The last handwritten letter I wrote was 2 years ago. The day of our wedding, Ryan and I wrote each other letters talking about our feelings for each other and how we felt now that our big day was here.

We keep those letters sealed and in a box, and will open them on our 25th wedding anniversary.

He doesn't know this, but I frequently write him small letters in a journal. Hoping to give it to him once it's full.

I wrote my last letter about 4 weeks ago. It was for one of my best friends who is currently backpacking in New Zealand and Australia by herself. I needed to tell her how brave she is and how much I'm looking forward to seeing her again in only 50 short days. The year apart was hard on both of us so we were writing each other letters. Best. way. ever. to tell your friends how loved they are!

I wrote a letter one time and then I shot it through the air as a paper airplane. It flew so far I couldn't see it anymore and then it came back all on its own. Letters are powerful things yo.

Is it possible to hear your recent talk about marriage? I've listened to your talk from Re|Engage and loved it.

I just sent a note to a friend a couple of weeks ago, in response to one she sent me. It's such fun to open up the mailbox and see a real letter sitting inside.

Handwritten letter/note - average about one per week. Watch out. You could be on my list someday.
