{A Story For Tomorrow}

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

While on a road trip to New Mexico a few weeks ago I read Donald Miller's book, A Million Miles in A Thousand Years. It was life changing. {Which I realize is a bold thing to say, but it's true}. Much like this video, Miller's book reminded me that I base my story on the things I value and find important. He forced me to ask the question, "Am I truly enjoying the story I'm living?" Miller goes on to say, "Once we live a good story we get a taste for a kind of meaning in life, and we can't go back to being normal; we can't go back to meaningless scenes stitched together by the forgettable thread of wasted time.” I'm thankful for how this video inspired me {thanks M.Hankins} and for a couple of upcoming adventures to look forward to with dear friends. The older I get the more I realize my story reads best when it's shared with those I know and love. Happy Wednesday, friends.

Thank you for sharing this video and your thoughts on life. As I find myself at a crossroads right now the video was a great reminder that I need to make decisions based on what I want my story to look like and not based on what I think it needs to look like. I hope some day I'll be able to say that I loved every aspect of my journey and that it was all worth it the good and the bad.
Happy Wednesday!

SAY WHAT!?! Girl, that book changed me life at the beginning of the summer. I read it while on a trip to Belize. The best thing that I read was the story of the dad who had the wild teenager and changed their family when they started serving the orphans in Mexico. It changed how I view my parenting styles.

I wrote a little post about my fav reads this year: http://abarefootday.blogspot.com/2012/09/4-books-that-changed-my-life.html

Reading that book right now :) great, great read and makes you think about the story you are living. I am on the verge of graduating and it has helped me take a step out of my comfort zone and look for jobs that will be an adventure!

I enjoyed the book a great deal myself, having read it several years ago. Since then, I've developed my reflections on it a bit more thoroughly: I think unless we articulate things correctly and are very self-aware we can- being humans- ultimately just make "our" story about...ourselves, and that's it, even if we claim we are looking to be help others or do great things with our lives. I only think framing it as "my story" can be a slippery slope, one that I don't trust myself with in the long run.

What about those of us that are preparing to live our story? For the ones that are still writing the Prologue of their story? For those that are feeling like they are still supporting character's in another's story?
