{Today's Letters}

Monday, September 17, 2012

Dear Mr. Loerke, This weekend we watched Blue Like Jazz, wore out the new Lumineers LP recently delivered by Mr. McFeely, put acorns in our pocket, rocked Smartwools, folded 427 loads of laundry, and ran 3mi together in the rain. Loved this weekend. Dear Comparison, You always rob me of joy. Must. remember. this. Dear iPhone 5, Thanks to my sweet dude you'll be arriving this Friday. He tells me you're so smart you'll cook me breakfast. AWESOME. Dear Timothy James, Saturday you ran faster than Usain Bolt in the Tour des Fleurs. Proud of you for training hard and for accomplishing your goal.

Happy Monday, friends! What have you been listening to lately? Are you training for anything this Fall?

Congrats on his race! I just signed up for my FIRST 5k in three weeks! Excited and nervous since it's my first and I'm completely un-runner like. Loved the letters and the inspiration they bring!

way to go, tim!
i went from not ever running to training for a 5k and then a half marathon. but then i got sick and running was very painful.
I'm hoping to start back very slowly in the next week or two, and maybe try for a 5k again this spring.
saturday I was in desperate need of music to help me get going. Iphone shuffle delivered with some mumford, coldplay, phillip phillips, gungor, the decemberists and walk off the earth. shuffle win.
yay for new iphones, blue like jazz, smartwool and acorns in pockets!
want to come help me fold laundry? i have about 394 loads just waiting to be folded. :)

Lately I've been obsessed with "Forgiveness" from the musical Jane Eyre. it's one of the most simple, true, and beautiful songs I've ever heard. :)

@earlynovemberlove: isn't the new Avetts FAN-effin-TASTIC! gosh it makes me so happy!

Blue Like Jazz was such a great flick, it made me laugh out loud and I appreciated its goodness especially with the so called "movies" that come out of the Christian community... it was real and refreshing and relatable (sp?) to anyone not just Christians
just another reason why i LOVE all things Don Miller!

I wish I was training for something specific. Mostly, I am trying to stay healthy and active while rocking the 9-5 and grad school. I got into aerial silks earlier this year, but had to take a break to deal with life stuff. I'm hoping to work on my endurance and strength so I can get back into it and kick-a!

I have that problem with comparison too...thanks for reminding to keep comparison out of my mind ;-)
Currently I love listening to anything from Johannes Oerding...a German singer whose voice melts my heart. So good! Check him out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2S7er-uwzE

And congratulations to running in the rain. Love it!

I'm training for my first marathon which falls on my 29th bday next month!! I'm trying to get people to "buy miles" for $26.20 to raise $$ for an organization called MamaBaby Haiti which is a birth center (and so much more) in Haiti! When the training gets overwhelming or tough, I just think of those Hatians that have it do much harder than me. They are who I'm running for!..... I'm curious what did you guys think of blue like jazz? Movie review please?! ;)

First 5k in less than two weeks. Eeek. Pretty nervous, especially since I've had leg problems during training.

However, I have wanted to do this for a while, so I am so excited to say I've done it AND that I get to do it for my cousin with cancer.

I was given a worship CD about two weeks ago at the local Christian Bookshop's first birthday celebrations and I've pretty much not stopped playing it since. I think it puts me in a better mood listening to worship music (although sometimes I do switch to the radio for the traffic or news updates - and for time checks on the school run as there is no clock in my car!)

I watched the iPhone 5 video and had to switch it off because I think i was about to start drooling lol.

Why?!?! When did I become that girl!!!! ARGH! Okay so do I need it - probably not my 4 is working fine. Do I want it? YES! Do I want it 100% that I'd go buy it tomorrow if I had the money (And it was available lol) erm probably but imagine that I'd regret it like an hour later lol.

I keep questioning if I should be going for something that is not an iPhone but when I went from an iPhone to a Blackberry and then iPhone to a HTC I was let down. I'm tempted by the Samsung that my friend has but is that just because it's her phone and not mine lol.

Was training, but not anymore - too busy! :( Hopefully I can set my gaze on a new adventure! Congrats to Tim on his race!
I've been swooning over Mr. Ben Rector lately. Not new stuff, but it is always a good choice! Especially as of late, since the weather is ever so slowly deciding to bring whispers of cool air!

You guys are awesome. Will you come to Minnesota so my husband and I can be friends with you? We have so many similar interests!

Anyway, I'm not training for anything right now. Just staying active and healthy.

I've been listening to Peter Mulvey and The Head and the Heart recently. Good stuff!

Em,

Your life and words inspire me regularly. Your "Dear Comparison" resonates deeply with the process I am in. I don't know if you have read Dr. Brené Brown's "The Gifts of Imperfection", but I would highly recommend it. She deals with the heart of our inclination toward comparison and it has been a huge turning point. You share so much with all of us & I wanted to share with you.

Brianna Brown

Husband and kids (ages 24, 14, 7) and I are hooked on K. Flay aka Kristine Flaherty. I've decided the family that k. flays together stays together. You can have lots of her songs for free and she tours nonstop so I'm sure you could see her soon as well. This has been on heavy rotation in our car lately: http://restyourmind.kflay.com/
