Awe what a cute puppy! She reminds me a lot of my own dog. Is she a golden retriever?

River is a yellow lab. She slept through night 2! Woo Hoo! Em and I have our work cut out for us. Any training tips from lab people? We are crate training. And she is actually liking her crate. It's her safe place.

We had a chocolate lab named Lucy Jane. She was one of the best dogs we ever had!!! We lost her to a blood clot last year. :( we miss her very much!

We crate trained her very young and we never used it as punishment. So when we said crate, she would walk in and sit. Be sure to use those mini gates inside so she has room to lay down, sit etc.. because if you let her have the whole crate (assuming its a large crate) she will use the other side to use the bathroom which is not what you want. we also took her to pet training at PetSmart. But if you got a video or book I'm sure you would be able to train just as well. Just start early with training. Eventually, after she learned to give me her paw to shake she learned to follow my hand and pretty soon when anyone asked her to high five she would reach up and do it. They are very smart, loyal and happy dogs!! CONGRATS on River! She's beautiful!

Wow, she's cute. My husband and I have got a 5 month old beagle named Macintosh. He's a bit of a rascal and a chewer. His favourite thing to chew is our wallpaper!! But he's so adorable its hard to tell him off.

Enjoy River as much as you can now as they grow so quickly. She'll be an amazing addition to the family though, I can't imagine life without Macintosh now!

Beautiful girl with a beautiful name to match! Enjoy those puppy kisses and snuggles and beware of sharp little chompers. :)

Awww, sooo cute! Congratulations! We have a 5 1/2 year old black named Pepper. She is such a joy! The best advice we got when we adopted her was to find a good trainer. Labs are so smart and such pleasers but they will be puppies for most of their lives : ) and watch out for that happy tail...it can be lethal (especially to the fellas ; )

Enjoy!

We are lab owners and my best advice is to train with positive energy and telling her what a good girl she is versus treats. Labs can tend to gain weight easily and then are prone to diabetes. Also, find a high quality food and do not switch it up too often. Changes in diet and/or table scrapes really affect their digestive tract. In my opinion there is no greater dog breed. We have a black lab, Deuce who is amazing and makes it so easy to feel unconditional love! Congrats.

Labs are hands down the best family dogs! We have 2 - a black lab, Desdemona (Desi), and a chocolate lab, Emanem (Emma ). Your pup is just beautiful! Enjoy the puppy kisses and the perennial happiness to see you two. But, as Dana said, watch out for the coffee table clearing table tail! That will always be an issue! Just know that River will be the best puppy when you two are blessed with Littles and she will be fiercely loyal, loving, and gentle for all her years. Our two pups have endured pulled ears, tails, and being crawled on by all five of my little people and they couldn't be happier! Congrats!
