Dear Mr. Loerke, you've had two weeks off to do things like study at coffee shops and fish at Floyds Fork. Grateful that you play just as hard as you work. Dear Friends, since substitute teaching I've A) caught one of my students rolling a joint with a Zig Zag wrapper and eraser shavings B) asked a 6th grader the meaning behind his tattoo and C) observed a group of female students tucking their book fair money into their bras. I love my life. Dear Nashville, you're less than 3 hours away. I see a road trip in our future. Dear Timothy James PA-C, today is your second day at a new ER. Pretty sure this means you'll need two cupcakes when you get home.

Happy Monday, brave ones! Have you ever been to Nashville? If so, we'd love to hear any recommendations you have on places to eat and things to do there!

As a Nashville resident, I say, welcome! We have so many yummy restaurants too ... to name a few, City House, Burger Up, Silly Goose, Marche, the Pharmacy, and Fido and Frothy Monkey are must visit coffee/food stops.

PLEASE come to Nashville! It's the best place and you'd love it! And you must tell me if you're coming as I'd love to see you! And I can second all of Jennifer's recommendations - so many delicious places here. You've always got a place to stay if you need one too.

Some of our favorites: Pharmacy Burger, Barista Parlor, Pancake Pantry, Fido, Jeni's ice cream. Honestly, Vanderbilt area and East Nashville are the best!

i am also a Nashville resident (err...read: Vandy student) and i second all of the above food recommendations. especially the Silly Goose--this is my favorite restaurant in the city. :) i might add Jeni's Ice Cream, Las Paletas, Loveless Cafe or Monell's (for soul food), Pancake Pantry (a little over rated but it's a tradition), and the Pied Piper. a hike in percy werner park might be right up y'all's alley. other interesting things to do include line dancing at the Wildhorse Saloon, jumping on trampolines at Sky High, a stroll about the Vanderbilt campus, cliff jumping at Percy priest Lake (in the summer, of course), playing hide and go seek at the Opryland Hotel, a visit to the Nashville Zoo to feed the lorikeets, and any of the 25+ concerts happening on any given night.
you would have a blast in Nashville. :)

I'm from Nashville, and there are so many fun things to do! Fido coffee shop is delish, and there are cute shops across the street. Jackson's has chocolate chip eggrolls, which sounds realy odd, but they are SO good!

I spent last summer in Nash and LOVED it. It is a wonderful city with great things going on. I third all of the above. You MUST go to Jeni's though, that is an absolute must. Frothy Monkey has great coffee and located in a cool part of town. There are great cupcake places too, Gigi's was my fav. Percy Werner and Radnor are beautiful places to hike. If you like sushi, Virago is wonderful. The Pharmacy was my favorite burger place. I'm jealous and have so much fun!

you definitely have to check out Mckay's used bookstore. if heaven were paperbacks and all things old! you'll definitely like the hiking too. and if you ever come down to TN for a roadtrip, stop by the cumberland mountains for some awesome views at Stone Door.

I'm a student at Vanderbilt Divinity School, and there are some really great things near the campus. In addition to some already mentioned, Edgehill Cafe is awesome along with Local Taco in Silvan Park (not from from West End Ave). If you want one of the best drinks you've ever had, you have to go to Patterson House on Division St.

All of the above are excellent suggestions!! I too am a current resident of Nashvegas. The Cupcake Collection near the farmers market is wonderful cupcakes. Fido, Jeni's Ice Cream, Rosepepper Cantina, Coco's Italian Market and if you want a fill your belly with goodness paper wrapped juicy burger and ice cold chocolate dipped cone - Bobby's Dairy Dip on Charlotte. Welcome to our neighborhood and blessings in abundance!

Burger Up is good, the Pharmacy is so-so...but if you want the best burger, go to Gabby's. It's a hole in the wall behind the Sounds stadium (the baseball team). It's locally owned and grass-fed..it's the best! I know others might disagree- it's only because they haven't been there. They also have delicious fruit tea- a Nashville staple! They have weird hours though, so check that they're open before you go! Other than that: Las Paletas, Rosepepper Cantina, Silly Goose. Edley's on 12th has good barbecue. As far as things to do- the Parthenon is classic. Hiking at Radnor Lake or going out on Percy Priest (if it's warm) is a blast. Hillsboro Village, East Nashville, and 12 South offer some cool places, along with downtown Franklin if you're willing to go about 20 minutes outside the city. I've lived here my whole life- hope you enjoy it as much as the natives do!

I'm not sure if you are talking about Nashville, IN or Nashville, TN? But both are great. Nashville Indiana is great to visit in the fall and has a ton of great food from mom and pop shops. I'm a regualr follower of your blog and if you ever want to visit Nashville, IN I would be happy to give you a tour!

I grew up about two hours out of Nashville and we went there all the time. By far one of my favorite things I ever did there was Shakespeare in the Park. In the summer, the local community theatre puts on plays in the park. People bring blankets and picnic dinners. Also, there is a full scale replica of the Parthenon in Nashville which is really amazing and something to see!

I live in Murray, KY and Nashville is about 2 hrs away, so we (me and the hubs) go on roadtrips there when I need a little big city air in my lungs. Not that Nashvegas is huge, but Murray, KY is a small little town. Everytime we go, we check out a new coffee shop. Last time it was Frothy Monkey (sooo good), before that it was FIDO (try the Roll-over). As far as food goes, I would go to Gigi's Cupcakes, and yes, cupcakes are a food group in my eyes haha. Gigi's has the most AMAZING cupcakes. Now as for actually food, I would go to Chuy's, if you're feeling Tex-Mex, which I am all the time. All this food talk, making me hungry :) I would also check out Centennial Park. It has a gorgeous garden with the biggest canna lilies and a replica of the Parthenon with a museum inside. Oh man, I see a roadtrip for me and the hubs there soon. More coffee shops to try out :)
Ps--I loooove your blog and check it all the time for updates. I have been to Lou once or twice but would love to go back to explore. Have you been to Cafe Lou Lou's? Sooo good. I also looved Cherokee Park, so pretty. One of my best college friends got married there--so gorgeous. Molly Malone's is good too, great fish and chips. Hope your enjoying Lou. I see a roadtrip for me and the hubs there soon

Love Nash. Used to live there and Marche and Burger Up are MUSTS. Also love Fido. Saw mention of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Egg Rolls at Jackson's -- those are good. I had a friend who used to get them as takeout. Jackson's is a fun place to go sit on the patio if it's nice out. So many places in Nashville, it's hard to narrow...

If you come to Nashville, the Well is a must. It's a non-profit coffee shop and it's phenomenal. For cupcakes, the best place in town is the Painted Cupcake.

I have to agree about hiking Radnor Lake; it offers a lovely view!

All of the suggestions so far are excellent. If you're down by Frothy Monkey or Burger Up, check out Edley's Barbeque. Their pork nachos are the best nachos in town, and they have a porch that you can sit on in the summer and drink local beer out of mason jars.

I'm a fellow Louisvillian and Nashville-roadtripper :-) My favorites are Jeni's Splendid ice cream and Gabby's Burgers and Fries (I like them better than Pharmacy AND Burger Up! Here's a link: http://gabbysburgersandfries.com/). My coffee faves are Crema (in the Fall they have this amazing sorghum/bourbon latte - to.die.for.) and Barista Parlor. All of these places are "must-visits" in my book.

Can't wait to see a future post of your Nashville adventures!

No one on here has mention good beer yet, but you gotta go to Yazoo. Its one of the local breweries in town and it is AWESOME. I have probably toured it at least 7 times total. Another good brewery is right down the road from that, Jackalope. Also, if you like donuts, Fox's Donut Den is the best :)
PS- I've never commented on here before, but just wanted to let you know that reading about your marriage has been a huge inspiration for me, as was your whole30 journey. I'm doing a similar program now called Maximized Living. Day 4. Woo!

Hi!

Oh, Nashville- but a wonderful blend of music, food and people! These recs are in no particular order, btw! There are a few neighborhoods in Nashville- all offering different vibes. East Nashville & 12 South are currently my favs. Downtown is OK, but very touristy. To get the real Nashville, venture out the city and over the Cumberland River! (just a short cab ride away!)

Don't get overwhelmed!

Music/ Drink
Well Obvi- there are a ton. Broadway will be lined with Honky-tonk's but Robert's & The Stage are my two favs of the ones we went to on the strip. Broadway is very touristy- but you kinda gotta do it! But don't go anywhere else, just those two!
