{Today's Letters}

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Dear Mr. Loerke, yesterday you changed the bulb in the front porch light, took out the trash, and washed the dishes after dinner. You shexy thing, you. Dear Plastic & Duct Tape, I think you are fantastic when you create things like this. Dear Missing Smartwool Sock, you're worse than missing car keys. The end. Dear Timothy James, pretty sure we go together like winter and flannel sheets. Over and out.

Happy Tuesday, friends! Do you lose things often? I usually have a place for everything. Looks like I need to work on this when it comes to my socks !

{Today's Letters & A Special Birthday}

Monday, January 28, 2013

Dear Husband, 847 miles and 4 trout later you finally made it to Louisville. Welcome home! Dear Molls Magee Roberson, today is your 25th birthday. Last year we climbed windmills, camped in the Blue Ridge Mountains, fly fished on the Davidson, hiked Half Dome, stole grapes from V. Sattui's vineyard in Napa, kept Austin weird, and learned how to sling clay on the pottery wheel. I couldn't ask for a better best. Can't wait to see all of the adventures this year holds! Thanks for being born. Dear Basa, four points for making me want to do the truffle shuffle after eating your macadamia nut cake with caramel espresso gelato. You were worth the two hour wait. Dear Timothy James, last week we bought a house. WE BOUGHT A FREAKING HOUSE! Here's to 107 year old bungalows with creaky hardwoods for shimmying, front porches for swinging, pocket doors for sliding, cellars for canning, third story studios for writing, and claw foot tubs for bathing. We. are. blessed.

Happy Monday, brave ones! Hope your weekend was full of learning new things and spending time with people you know and love. What are you looking forward to today?

{Gratitude} Lately

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Lately I've been thankful for pups below my feet and homemade meals with friends.

For sunsets and quiet evenings at home.

For road trips and the opportunity to do things we love.

For simple packages and the thoughtfulness of others.

For 24 hour vets and lazy afternoons.

For chickens to chase and the laughter they bring.

And for old copper bowls that remind mind me of my Papa.
What have you been grateful for lately?
Here's to gratitude and how it turns everything into enough.
Happy Sunday, brave ones.

{Happy Martin Luther King Day!}

Monday, January 21, 2013

It's no secret that one of my favorite holidays is Martin Luther King Day. Our world would be such a different place had it not been for this man's efforts to help end racial segregation. Amen?

For the last several years we've celebrated by cooking Martin Luther King's favorite meal: fried chicken, sweet potatoes, green beans, mac & cheese, sweet tea and homemade pecan pie.

We also celebrate by watching a documentary about MLK's efforts to transform the civil rights movement in America. Btw, Netflix has a wide selection of documentaries under "watch it instantly."
Here is one of our favorites.

Happy Monday, brave ones!

Dear Sleep, you are as delicious as French Toast made on Pugliase bread from Blue Dog Bakery. Thankful for last night's uninterrupted 6 hours.  Dear Tim Tebow Loerke, only five more days until I tackle you in the front yard. Wear pads.

Happy Weekend, brave ones! What's your favorite thing to eat for breakfast on Saturday mornings? I could eat my weight in homemade French Toast with Black Forest Bacon from Whole Paycheck. Yum.
