{Gratitude} Lately

Saturday, August 31, 2013

Lately I've been thankful for Box Car Willie Heirlooms and St. Mary of the Pickle's bounty.

For six-paneled doors and pups who say good morning.

For flannel shirts and shallow supers filled with capped honey.

For memories of kayaking in Alaska and King Salmon that jump over the bow of your boat.

For alone time fishing at the Gorge and good music on road trips.

For the morning light that shines on Mr. Underwood in our entryway and old photos found in our attic.

For hat woobies and date nights to Feast with this handsome man.

And for homegrown fingerling potatoes and new watch bands that don't smell like death.
Here's to gratitude and how it turns everything into enough.
What have you been thankful for lately?
Happy Saturday, brave ones.

You know how I feel about John Lucas, bravery, adventure, and Ben Howard.
Happy Friday, brave ones!

{Today's Letters}

Thursday, August 29, 2013

Dear Mr. Loerke, sometimes when you do laundry our navy towels turn pink. Sometimes when I use the grill I forget to turn off the gas. Good thing we love each other more than bleach and propane. Dear Full Moon, you are one of my favorite things about getting up at 3am to pee. Who needs a night light when we have you? #betterthanthestarofbethlehem Dear Waterfront Wednesday, thanks for giving us an excuse to end our day with Laura Marling, sweet friends, cold beer, and toes in the grass. Reason #218 why I love summers in Louisville. Dear Timothy James {who always gets two letters}, yesterday I asked for your forgiveness two times before lunch. Sometimes my communication be struggs. Thanks for your grace.

Happy {almost} weekend! What's been the best concert you've seen this summer?

{The River House}

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Sunday night we spent time at The River House with Bek & her rovers.
Some highlights included:
Eating the best homemade shrimp tacos, guac, salsa, and cherry pie I've ever tasted.
Listening to Collin say the word "caterpillar."
Teaching the boys how to make homemade vanilla ice cream.
And looking for pirate ships & driftwood by the river at sunset.
I'm always humbled to leave The River House feeling full of good food and conversation.
Thanks for sharing your space with us, Bek.
You're one of the most comfortable easy chairs I know.

{Today's Letters} : Early Morning Edition

Monday, August 26, 2013

Dear Timothy James, your smoked brisket and burnt ends are worth your alarm going off at 5am to start the smoker. I officially crown you the Albert Einswine of BBQ. Dear Mornings, sometimes you are best started by listening to this song {#6}. Thank you John Lucas for the reminder that the darkest nights prove the light of morning. Dear Chickens, not only do you wake us up each morning at 5:07 but you also dig up the potatoes in our raised beds. What the cluck. Dear Beloved, after getting home from work at 1am you woke up early this morning for accountability and breakfast with a friend. So encouraged by you.

Happy Monday, brave ones! Are you a morning person or a night owl? {Insert both right hurrr}. Yikes.

{Fly Fishing Trip} Asheville, NC

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Three chicks, one babe, two nights camping in Pisgah National Forest,
an amazing guide named Nick, and 21 trout caught on the Davidson River.
Doesn't get much better than that.
Well, maybe eating carrot cake in a tent at midnight during a rainstorm.
Yep, did that too.
Thanks Bek, Molls & Row the one of the best weekends of my life!
Y'all are the best.

{Today's Letters}

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Dear Timothy James, yesterday morning you went to the store while I did laundry and fed the chickens. Thanks for being my selfless wing man. Dear Rowan, recently we had a long conversation about banana bread. I'm glad we agree it's a food group. Dear Fly Fishing Trip, you were unforgettable. Three chicks, a babe, and 21 trout. #happyplace Dear Mr. Loerke (who always gets two letters), more than notes left in the refrigerator and brownies brought back for you from Asheville. You are loved.

Happy Tuesday, brave ones! The KY State Fair has officially started! {And you know how we feel about fair food}. Get ready to stuff your bocas with fried everything on a stick! Yumsy.
