{GO Month}

Friday, January 03, 2014

January is officially the Loerke GO (get organized) Month. We're firm believers in clearing things out that don't matter so we can make room for things that do. Here's a good rule of thumb to remember as you decided what to keep, toss, and give away: try and only hang onto things that A) you need B) you use and C) bring you joy. If they don't do these three things then they're probably just contributing to clutter.

One simple thing I try and do in January is to unsubscribe to all of my junk emails. I promise, you'll feel 15 pounds lighter and you won't even have to run around the block. If you're looking for a little bigger project we'd encourage you to consider making the paperless transition and sign up for Evernote. It's free and will change. your. life. We've been fans of Evernote for a long time and haven't needed a filing cabinet in over three years. It's glorious.

We'd love to know any organizational tips you have to help us become better organized this month.  Currently we're still working on tackling our basement. Praise the Great Lion of Judah for shelving and clear storage bins!

Happy Friday, brave ones. You are loved!

I am a fan of the purge!

I live in MN and with our winters? This is a perfect "in the depths of winter" project! With windchills -30 or lower...a perfect excuse!

We do the same thing every January!
Something I have ALWAYS found helpful in purging the clutter is to reorganize :) When you are made to take books off of shelves, and take off couch cushions, you always find stuff you just don't need. Then, when you're done, you have de-cluttered AND made a change of scenery for yourself - completely new start!

I go through my closet and anything that I haven't worn in one year gets donated. It's such a great feeling dropping off a big bag of thing's that you don't need!

We just moved, so I've been purging since October. It feels so good, doesn't it?!

So impressed with your organized basement. Love it.

I just rediscovered Evernote. I'm not using it to its full potential yet, but thanks for the nudge. Happy Organizing!

What timing! We are moving in two weeks (!) and packing starts TODAY. I am overwhelmed at going through the stuff under the bed (much less the rest of the house) - your guidelines for keeping things are perfect. :-)

I always use the first months of the year to get my life organized. Meaning I sit down and think about what I want to get done this upcoming year, what I want to accomplish and where I want to go. Kind of like new years resolutions but different ;-)

By the way, does the GO-month also include a new look for the blog? I noticed some changes on your left side bar and have to say I like what I see :)

Happy weekend!

Emo! Where are you and your bins and sticky labels when I need you?! Can I fly you to CO before feb to help before we move?! Not exactly my strong suit, this organization thing...

I love Evernote, however, I've never thought of using it for more than just taking sermon notes and making to-do lists. How do you use yours instead of having a big bulking filing cabinet? Any tips you can share?

Organizing=the best. Purging and living more simply=bestest.
My husband and I have moved a lot in the last few years, and I've found that boxes we haven't unpacked after being in a new place for a duration (say... 6 months, as is our case) are generally things that need to hear sayanora.

I need to get on the Evernote train. I just haven't taken the time to figure it out. Thanks for the reminder.

Just sent my husband and email to see if we could purge our closets this weekend. I also want to tackle our fairly small paper pile and decide what goes and stays.

On that note, how do you use Evernote to store everything? I'd love some tips on becoming more and more paperless!

Love it and have a beautiful day!!

kristina, the updates were long overdue! trying to learn code is not my greatest strength :)

molls, you are so funny. your comment reminded me of your closet upstairs at your old house! love you just as you are.

madison, al, samantha, we use evernote for so many things! electronics manuals, church handouts / notes, vacations we've taken (hotel/travel info), bills for river, housing deed & life insurance information, maintenance records for our cars, sentimental letters from family and friends that we've scanned, so many things!

mmr, i will help you with the dungalow's basement! #happyplace

This is such goodness right here.
Never knew this was the case for us until we brought a baby into the world 2 months ago, but we thrive off of simplifying. We've been donating stuff almost every other day.

Simplifiers unite!

By the way, been following you & your words for a while now. Thank you for sharing a sliver of your life! 'Tis inspiring.

Ok I'm borrowing your GO phrase (with credit to you of course) from now on. This week I accomplished GO menu planning to help me not eat mini wheats for dinner every night. lol Happy New Year

I sometimes feel like I could spend a lifetime on the Get Organized train and still not have it all together, but with regards to emails, I've found help! Unroll.me is a free service that turns unsubscribing from all the extraneous nonsense a one click affair. They will make you share their info to unsubscribe from more than 5 lists, but it did in ten minutes what I've been trying to accomplish for two months. Hope it helps, and happy new year!

I took your advice and unsubscribed from most of my junk emails. Wooh - you were right! 15 pounds lighter! Now on to the next step....
