{West Coast Road Trip} Ventura & Big Sur

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

"Something good will come out of all things yet - and it will be golden and eternal just like that."
- Jack Kerouac {Big Sur}

One of our first stops in Ventura was the original Patagonia store and tin shed where
Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, first started forging climbing pitons.
It was amazing to see!
Next we headed up the coast towards Big Sur.
We saw elephant seals the size of VW busses, stopped at McWay Falls, ate lunch at Nepenthe Cafe,
and were enamored by the views at Bixby Bridge.
This was by far the most beautiful 8 hour drive I've ever been on!
Our only regret was not taking 2 days to make this drive.
Next time we hope to stay overnight in a yurt at Treebones Resort.
Happy Wednesday, brave ones.
What's your favorite thing about Big Sur?

No question: Sykes Hot Springs! We did a backpacking trip a couple years ago in Big Sure that brought us to the most tranquil natural hot springs. Nothing better than to soak your body after a few days of hiking!

My favorite thing about Big Sur is that it is one of places I've yet to go and am excited to see for the first time.
Family trip? Wanna?

We did this drive in a day on our cross-country road trip, and I really wish we had budgeted more time for it. What a magical place. My husband and I went a little crazy and jumped into the frigid water, just to say we'd swum in the Pacific Ocean. So dumb. Such a great memory. Thanks for sharing yours.

We stayed at Treebones for a couple days of our honeymoon West Coast road trip! (Portland to Big Sur). The yurt was SO neat, we could hear the seals at night, and the food and views were AMAZING. :) These photos are so beautiful- I can't wait for the day we can go back!

Going North, literally 5 minutes before you hit Nepenthe is Deejten's Big Sur Inn. The most magical rustic, organic, and hospitable inn you could imagine. We stayed in the "little room" and in "Edys" room. The food was also AH-MAZING. I will never forget our stay there. I can't wait to go back!
