Michigan, you were cold. Like REALLY cold.
But you sure were pretty!
Some highlights from our trip included:
Coffee at Milktooth, BLK/MRKT, Madcap & Lantern.
The best sweet potato doughnut holes I've ever had.
Seeing a 254 yr old Dutch windmill.
Visiting the Big Red Lighthouse in Holland State Park.
Fishing for steelhead on the Manistee River.
Watching the sunrise on West Grand Traverse Bay.
Getting free dessert at Marie Catrib's.
Watching the March Madness games at Short's and the Jolly Pumpkin.
Getting to visit Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo.
Seeing my alma mater for the first time in 13 years.
Aaaaand eating a #58 sundae from Ivanhoe's.
Happy Friday, brave ones.
What do you like most about Michigan?

Oh my goodness! I can't believe you were in my town! Marie Catrib's is practically in my backyard and my very favorite place! Windmill Island is also beautiful/funny. So glad you enjoyed your trip!

Oh, oh, oh Emily Loerke... I have wanted to move to Michigan since I was 16. This blog post just may have done it. It might really be time for me to say good bye to Illinois and make that dream come true.

Love Michigan! So glad you made it to Grand Rapids...love living here! Lantern is right around the corner from where I used to work and we frequented it often! Come back sometime for pizza and brews at The Mitten Brewing Company...it's right in our neighborhood! Love that you made it to Holland, too. Nothing like that section of Lakeshore!

I love beer samplers at Bell's, running the streets of South Haven first thing in the morning, and swimming in Lake Michigan.
Your trip looks like the perfect getaway. Did you stay in hotels or airbnbs? I would love to make it all the way north to Traverse City this summer.

haley, that's amazing! i definitely want to go back in the summer! lemme know if you take that leap and move to the mitten.

thebergmans, we went to lantern! thanks for the Mitten Brewing Co rec. I'll add that to our list of places to go the next time we stop!

jen, you know michigan well! yes! we stayed at an airbnb just north of traverse city by about 6 miles. it was right on the water. so much cheaper than a hotel downtown!

So fun that you went back to TU? How was it being back? Do you have any friends still around there that you got to see?

We moved to MI six years ago from Louisville:). We live outside Ann Arbor and just started to do some exploring of the mitten state last year. We love Petoskey and have some great friends who live there. Hoping to hit Holland this summer. All the breweries and outdoor adventure make Michigan one of my most favorite places I've ever lived. Looks like you had a great trip. P.S. So glad a friend recommended your blog. Louisville has a piece of my heart and I live there vicariously through your photos. I miss all the great spots to eat in the Highlands!!

As another Taylor grad, I am so glad you got to go back and go to Ivanhoe's! I love their strawberry shortcake and will have to get it next time I'm in the area!

I always went for the #24 shake myself! It's too rich to even finish! I went back to the alma mater 2 years ago to when I was invited to teach a workshop there! It was great to see everything! The area is practically a booming metropolis in comparison! Gone are days where Ivanhoes and Toppit Pizza were the only options! There's even a Starbucks in Gas city... Next to a hotel!!!!
