For the past 7 years we've celebrated Martin Luther King day with friends by cooking his favorite meal.
{Fried Chicken, Sweet Potato Casserole, Macaroni & Cheese, Green Beans, & Pecan Pie}

We also try and watch a movie or documentary about MLK's efforts to end racial segregation.
As far as food goes, this year's green bean casserole was our favorite.

Love this! So often the true weight of Dr. King's work in combatting racism is lost on MLK Day as white America posts inspirational MLK quotes about peace and thinks naught one bit about racism. I think it's wonderful that you celebrate him as a person by cooking his favorite meal, then watch movies about the work he was involved in. May have to steal this idea next year!
