{Happy Martin Luther King Day!}

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

For the past 8 years we've celebrated Martin Luther King day with friends by cooking his favorite meal.
{Fried Chicken, Sweet Potato Casserole, Macaroni & Cheese, Green Beans, & Pecan Pie}
This year I forgot to take photos of our feast!
I was, however, reminded that leftover MLK food tastes just as good. {Even River agrees}
Aside from having a sweet meal with friends Brave's prayer blessed me the most ...
"Dear Lord, thank you for Mr. King day. Amen"
Our family has been given so much!
I pray we never take our freedom for granted.
One of my favorite line's in from the movie Hidden Figures is, "We all pee the same color."
May we forever remember this to be true!
Happy Tuesday, brave ones.
We hope your MLK day is memorable and inspiring.

PS - If you haven't seen The Butler, 12 Years As A Slave, or Selma we highly recommend them!

Yesterday was the first time I hosted and cooked Dr. King's favorite meal. We watched The Butler and then his most famous speech. The conversation started from the film then evolved into discussion on today, and how we can help. Thanks for the inspiration Em! This is a tradition I would love to keep.

this was also our first year to make dinner (i even found a dairy free mac 'n cheese recipe!) and we started watching FREEDOM RIDERS on pbs.org. recently we watched FENCES, ZOOTOPIA and HIDDEN FIGURES. all excellent films. tonight we read through MLK's letter from a birmingham jail + last night we also watched john oliver's feature on segregation. very interested to read and learn more in the coming weeks.
