{Happy Martin Luther King Day!}

Monday, January 15, 2018

For the past 9 years we've celebrated Martin Luther King day by cooking his favorite meal.
Unfortunately I caught Brave's flu Thursday night so I delegated the cooking of our
fried chicken and pecan pie to Joella's & Kroger.
Mama always said anything picked up within 5 miles from home is considered homemade right?
We tried new recipes this year for the Sweet Potato Casserole, Macaroni & Cheese, & Green Beans.
They were less time consuming to make but tasted just as great as years past!
It was such a gift to have my Papa and Twinner in town to celebrate this meal together.
In addition to cooking MLK's favorite meal we try and watch a
documentary or movie about racial reconciliation.
Today I listened Dr. King's I Have A Dream speech posted above.
What a magnificent, humble, and well-educated man.
I pray we never take our family and freedom for granted!

PS - If you haven't seen The Butler, 12 Years As A Slave, or Selma we highly recommend them!

{Snow Day}

Sunday, January 14, 2018

I can only thing of a few better things than an afternoon nap on a snow day.
Stay warm Louisville.

{Bagel Me}

Thursday, January 11, 2018

When family comes in town you recruit one of your best girls to make it memorable.
The bagel may have been invented back in the 1600's in Poland, but Noel Deeb has perfected it.
Keep feeding those you love with your best works, my girl.

Can't wait for Twinner & my Papa to get here for the weekend!

{Fluathon}

Not much can take this kid out except a nasty flu bug that lasted 6 days.
What a great reminder this past week has been for us to not take our health for granted.
Stay well, y'all.

{Sausage Spinach & White Bean Soup}

Tuesday, January 09, 2018

We've been living off of lots of soup lately since the temps have been in the single digits.
With it being National Soup Month I thought I'd share our favorite soup so far.
Tim said it didn't even need salt, which if you know my dude you know this means it's good.

On repeat lately.

{Shedding the Old}

Tuesday, January 02, 2018

A sweet soul recently reminded me the importance of shedding the old to make way for the new.
I felt like this was timely wisdom considering all of us are sliding into a new year.
My goals for 2018 are simple, written and hanging on our fridge.
They are a reflection of juggling being a wife, mom, student, and friend-- less ambitious than years past, but hopefully just as transformative.
Whatever your goals are for 2018 I encourage you to be one of the 3% who writes them down.
I've learned that spoken desires are good for conversation, but written goals are dreams pursued.
May we remember this coming year we can have whatever we're willing to struggle for.
Don't give up.
It's never too late to be the person you want to be.
