{An Early Honey Harvest}

Wednesday, May 30, 2018

Yesterday I got to harvest a small batch of honey due to a shallow super that was on its last legs.
This is by far the lightest honey we've harvested in the 6 years we've been keeping bees!
The color, texture, flavor, and smell of honey is determined by the variety of plants the bees
collect nectar from ... which is pretty special that no batch will taste the exact same.
This honey tastes like orange blossom and spice with a side of floral notes.

Looking forward to putting it on my Greek yogurt and granola in the morning for brekky!
What's your favorite way to eat honey?

{When You Catch A River Unicorn}

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

When you see a golden trout surrounded by a river of browns and bows, life is good.
When you hook into this golden trout and see him safely landed in the net, life is really good.
By far my favorite fish caught to date.
It felt much undeserved ... but I guess most of life's gifts feel that way.
Thank you river for the sweet unicorn you let me hold.

2. Teach em young
3. The talent behind the lens
4. Authentic communion
5. (Both) made with love
6. Morning Paddle
7. The best kind of shower

Some of my favorite pics from Chetola ...
These people are simply the salt of the earth.

{The Original Mast General Store}

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

If you've ever been to a Mast General Store you know you've stepped foot into a small slice of heaven!
It's the perfect balance of outdoor gear, home goods, and old time treats and sodas.
Being able to visit the original store from 1883 in Valle Crucis was such a gift!
Also, Valle Crusis is my new favorite town.

{Blowing Rock} North Carolina

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

A few weeks ago we got to travel to North Carolina to do a shoot with Orvis.
We were incredibly grateful for our time with our dear Bucket and Lauren, as well as for the chance to fish with some new friends, Katie & Daniel!
Blowing Rock is such a sweet little corner of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Add it to your bucket list!

{A Good Question To Ask Yourself}

Monday, May 28, 2018

"Mama, wanna hear me blow bubbles and sing under water at the same time?"
(Btw, this sounded just like you would thought ... a mix of Charlie Brown's mom and a dying dolphin)
Anyway, Brave's question made me ask myself when was the last time I did something really silly?
Kids are so good for us.

{Oxmoor Farm}

Monday, May 28, 2018

Last weekend our sweet neighbors invited us out to their farm to make homemade pizza.
We picked purple asparagus, radishes, garlic, kale, rainbow chard, and fennel.
I also learned that a little olive oil, garlic, shallots, lemon juice, and salt is all you need for a good sauce!
Thankful for an afternoon in the sun and for friends who throw great birthday parties.

{Today's Letters}

Sunday, May 27, 2018

Dear Timosabi
, I can’t decide if it’s her lashes, freckles, or dirty paws I love most but either way I see your curiosity in her and that makes my ovaries hurt. Dear Shallow Super, you endured a dozen or more honey harvests over the years before your frames finally fell apart. Fist pumps for giving Shel’s Giving Tree a run for his honey. Dear Kentucky Native Cafe, your greenhouse restaurant is a true urban oasis perfected with a side of local craft beer and homemade pretzels. I’ve never shared a meal in a more magical place! Dear Timothy James (who always gets two letters), for Mother’s Day you gifted me three hand tied flies and time on the water. I couldn’t have felt more loved and known. Thank you for appreciating the simple and celebrating the homemade with me.

Happy Sunday, y'all. Here's to another week. Let's make it a good one.

{It Is Finished}

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

5 classes, 70 exams, completed in 4.5 months.
Had you told me last winter I'd be here I would have said you were crazy!
I've learned my mind is a powerful thing ...
it can help drive me towards success or bury me in failure.
Here's to getting lots of time with family over the next 6 weeks before my nursing program begins!

It's always fun seeing people you love do what they're gifted at.
So proud of you Bucket.

{A Strong Finish}

Monday, May 14, 2018

68 exams down, only 2 to go ...
Anyone else think the kidneys look like heirloom tomatoes?
Here's to a strong finish with a side of gratitude for organs that create our urine.

{Thoughts on Motherhood}

Sunday, May 13, 2018

Before I had a little girl I could count on two hands the number of times someone had given me flowers. Now Brave has picked me so many I've lost count. Raising kids can be a full time job and it honestly leaves me exhausted and scratching my head most days at this whole parenting thing. But the truth is, kids are bigger blessings than they are work. It's been a privilege being a mama, something I don't ever want to take for granted. So hug your little ones tight tonight. Kiss their dirty paws and sweaty little heads that always seem to smell like Trix cereal. They are our next wave of world changers.

Happy Mother's Day.
