{Red Canyon Lodge} Dutch John, Utah

Friday, September 30, 2016

There are a few things you should know before fishing the Green River ...
Be sure and stay at the Red Canyon Lodge. Call it home for at least 3 nights.
Grab breakfast at the Flaming Gorge Resort.
Janice is one of the nicest waitresses you'll ever meet and she'll serve your beer in a frosted mug.
Red Canyon Lodge doesn't start serving food until 5pm, but their
smoked salmon is some of the best you'll ever have.
Cell service in Dutch John is as spotty as a painted horse, so leave your iPhone at the cabin,
rent a canoe at the lake, and fuggggget about it.
Happy October Eve, y'all!

{Heidi Lewis @heidiaqua}

One of my favorite things about Instagram is the incredible people it allows me to meet.
Moll's and I had a blast catching browns on dry flies with Heidi Lewis {@heidiaqua} last week.
She's such a generous, patient, and just overall fun girl to fish with!
Be sure and check out this short video made by Moll's ...
It captures our day perfectly!

{Salt Lake City} Utah

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Last week Moll's and I flew to Utah and Arizona for our annual fishing trip sans kiddos.
Salt Lake City did not disappoint!
We stayed at this downtown studio which was by far our best Airbnb experience yet.
We also loved:
Coffee at PublikPastries from Tulie Bakery
Breakfast & coffee at The Rose Establishment
If you're ever in Salt Lake City, be sure and hit up these places!

{Sleeping With the Stars}

Tuesday, September 27, 2016

If you ever go to the Red River Gorge be sure and stay at the Red River Gorgeous Tree Houses.
They were built with such excellent craftsmanship you can't help but love walking among the stars!
The views are also breathtaking.
Happy Tuesday, brave ones.

{Dear Papa} Letters from Brave

Thank you for teaching me the value of chores.

For showing me that teamwork is better than working alone.

And for sharing with me your love for the outdoors.
I love you, Papa!

{Dear Bravey Train}

You crack open pistachios better than most squirrels.

Never forget to tuck in your bath toys with washrags before bed.

Will potty for shmallows.

And could sleep through a freight train after playing hard at school all day.
I love these things about you.
Love you to the moon and back,
Mama

{Gratitude Lately}

Lately I've been thankful for 4 mile hikes at The Gorge with my favorite girl.

For opportunities to grow in patience.

For special delivers from Alaska.

For homemade cronuts left on our front porch.

And for evening walks with my favorite guy that end here.
Here's to gratitude and how it turns everything into enough.
Happy Thursday, y'all.
What have you been grateful for lately?

{Woodshed Project} Bring On Old Man Winter

Wednesday, September 07, 2016

Last fall we installed a wood burning stove and used it almost daily through the winter and early spring.
It ended up saving us over $350 in utilities over the course of 4 months!
One thing we didn't prepare well for, however, was having all of our firewood pre-cut to fit our firebox.
As a result Tim ended up spending many mornings and nights chopping wood in the snow.
This year we were determined to be better prepared!
After three weeks of building, painting, cutting, and stacking lumber with friends we finally
have a wood shed that's ready for Old Man Winter.
Can't wait for our first fire of the season! #smoresme
Happy Septmember, y'all.

{Wind River Range} Wyoming

Tuesday, September 06, 2016

Last week I spent 8 days in the Wind River Range backpacking in Wyoming.
This was by far my most favorite back country trip yet!
We hiked 60-70 miles, starting at the Elk Hart Trailhead and ending at Green River Lakes.
My favorite memories included: catching a golden trout, learning more about true friendship, understanding at a greater depth how I can be mastered by food, the importance of being calm when confronted with danger, and the gift of solitude in the midst of God's creation.
***
Where's the most beautiful place you've ever camped / backpacked?
I'm already working on planning next year's trip!
Hope y'all had a great Labor Day weekend!
-Tim

{Gratitude Lately}

Lately I've been thankful for morning coffee dates with my wombmate.

For River's reminders to R-E-S-T.

For evening walks home from the park with these two.

And for shortless wonders and their helping hands.
Here's to gratitude and how it turns everything into enough.
Happy Monday, y'all.
What have you been thankful for lately?
