{Gratitude Lately}

Tuesday, July 03, 2018

Lately I've been thankful for life, even when it hits you sideways.

For good dessert shared with friends.

For evening rides to Hammerheads with Timosabi.

For an organized wood shed that blesses my brain box.

And for leftover birthday ice cream for breakfast because it's better than leftover cake.
Here's to gratitude and how it turns everything into enough.
What have y'all been thankful for lately?
Happy Tuesday (or Tootday as Bravey calls it)

{Blueberry Pickin'}

A two hour break in between rounding on patients?
Let's pick blueberries.
One for the bucket, two for the boca.
You with me?

{The Power of a Written Name}

Monday, June 18, 2018

I've seen my name written on many things, but never did I imagine it would be on a stethoscope.
My nursing program starts in two weeks ... In the meantime I've been reading this book.
The stories are true, written by nurses and NP's across the country.
I can't recommend this book enough to any prospective nursing student or nurse!
A more detailed book review to come.
Grab your Kleenex.

{Happy Father's Day!}

Many of you know Tim and I waited nine years into our marriage before we had Brave. Some of this delay was due to getting Tim through PA school, investing time into our friendship, doing self work, and facing the long-standing fears we had about expanding our family. In spite of our reasons, God used it all and gifted us with a sweet little girl. Watching Tim become a Papa has been a hilariously sweet adventure from the start ... from the moment during Brave's birth when he pulled her out and announced she was a boy, to the time he melted her Barbie with a hair dryer trying to dry it off after a bath. I've watched him play hard with our daughter, reminding her that girls who like dresses can still be strong and confident in their bodies. He's taught her about theater, jazz music, and dancing-- three things that are way outside my scope of expertise. He's given her a love for backyard chickens, living room obstacle courses, and chocolate dipped Popsicles. These two set raccoon traps together, share a mutual love for fireworks, and act out a Bible story each night before bed. Their bond has been built slowly over years of faithfully invested time and and lots of grace extended between them. Tim would tell you becoming a Papa has grown him most in lengthening his patience. I'd add to that a genuine gentleness and sacrificial love. All that to say, I'm incredibly proud of the ways this man continues to go the extra mile as a Papa. It has by far been one of the most beautiful things to watch.

Happy Papa's Day, my sweet Tim.
You are so very appreciated!

She's fearless, often times riding her bike too fast around a corner or jumping into the river before we can get her life jacket fully zipped. I love this about her as much as it terrifies me.
She's also as gentle as a dryer sheet, especially when it comes to babies ...
Brave will have 7 kids someday, mark my words!
Here's to embracing the differences and celebrating the strengths of our kiddos.
Happy Monday, y'all.

{Two Reasons to Celebrate}

Friday, June 08, 2018

"So we grew together like a double cherry, seeming parted, but yet a union in partition,
two berries molded in one stem." - William Shakespeare
My precious Twinner, you have a gentleness about you that is irresistible. Your awareness of others is unmatched and your presence has always been one of my safest places to land.
Thank you for being (truly) the greatest wombmate I could ever ask for.
Happy 38th Bubby!

My sweet Row, you have the best mama on the planet, and although you are not mine by blood you have taught more a lifetime of lessons about faith, trust, hope, and love. You're fascinated with the unknown, always learning new things and asking thought provoking questions.
You have more energy than a pot of coffee and your love for avocados is near and dear to my heart.
I'm grateful to share this special day with you!
Happy fiver precious boy.

{An Early Honey Harvest}

Wednesday, May 30, 2018

Yesterday I got to harvest a small batch of honey due to a shallow super that was on its last legs.
This is by far the lightest honey we've harvested in the 6 years we've been keeping bees!
The color, texture, flavor, and smell of honey is determined by the variety of plants the bees
collect nectar from ... which is pretty special that no batch will taste the exact same.
This honey tastes like orange blossom and spice with a side of floral notes.

Looking forward to putting it on my Greek yogurt and granola in the morning for brekky!
What's your favorite way to eat honey?

{When You Catch A River Unicorn}

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

When you see a golden trout surrounded by a river of browns and bows, life is good.
When you hook into this golden trout and see him safely landed in the net, life is really good.
By far my favorite fish caught to date.
It felt much undeserved ... but I guess most of life's gifts feel that way.
Thank you river for the sweet unicorn you let me hold.

{The Original Mast General Store}

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

If you've ever been to a Mast General Store you know you've stepped foot into a small slice of heaven!
It's the perfect balance of outdoor gear, home goods, and old time treats and sodas.
Being able to visit the original store from 1883 in Valle Crucis was such a gift!
Also, Valle Crusis is my new favorite town.
